Can you believe it, it’s already August, which means school is just around the corner. I know, I know, hold the groans, because while we aren’t looking forward to homework and grueling classwork, we can start to look forward to football season!

Whether you are into watching the sport, or simply love having school pride and going out to the games with your friends or to support your fellow classmates, it’s time to start brainstorming ways that you can show support to your school’s football team.

Here are some DIY projects to consider doing before school gets back in session.

Throw pillows

Whether you are just going to decorate with a marker or with a full-on sewing design, throw pillows can be a fun way to support your team, and it can cater to different artistic levels. Pinterest is great at providing different ways to make a certain item, so if an embroidery throw pillow looks too complicated, a quick tutorial on how to use a fabric marker will do.

Making throw pillows won’t take too long, but it will be a great way to show your school pride, and it will also be easy to store away when it’s not the season for it anymore. Anyone who comes into your apartment will spot your pride right off the bat and will be happy to see it there.

Blankets/quilts

This, again, can be as simple or as complex as you like. Simply getting your school’s two colors and making a small blanket will do, or you can go all out and stitch letters or your mascot into it.

A quilt or blanket is a fun way to show your pride, especially at the games. You can pack it along with you, and snuggle up in it as the night goes on and you’re cold. Extra props for making a Snuggie out of your school colors!

And I’m sure your school might sell blankets too, but it will be so much more unique to come to the game sporting your very own team blanket. And hey, if it catches enough attention, people might even be asking you if they can pay you to make them one as well.

After the game, the blanket will be perfect to drape over the couch in your living room, or even to hang up in your window to show off your pride.

Mugs

There are fun glazing places, like Color Me Mine, where you can go and paint your very own mug to represent your school. This could be a cool date to take someone on, a spontaneous friend bonding moment, or simply a time for you to have some “you time.” Painting is so therapeutic, and you’ll be leaving with a great piece to show off in your house.

The fun doesn’t have to stop at a mug either. You could paint a vase to support your school, maybe a bowl or two to eat late night cereal out of, or even see if the place has your school’s mascot so you can paint that and display it.

Window décor

Whether you are living on or off campus, why not decorate your windows to show your support of the football team? You can work on your penmanship and use pretty paper to letter out a school chant, or you can get that window puff paint and paint on your windows while football season is going on.

Especially off campus, this is an awesome way to bond with fellow college neighbors, and even if you have to miss a game or two, everyone will know which team you are rooting for.

Roomie pride

School pride is much more fun the more people you have in on it, so why not coordinate with your housemates/roommates to go all out in the pride department? A great way to do this would be to decorate school shirts together that you can wear to the game, and also around your place to show how much you love your school and your team. When not wearing it out, it can double as a sleep shirt, or you can even hang it on your wall as a decorative school piece.

Picture frames

Making your own picture frames or decorating plain wood or white ones is another great way to subtly show off your school pride in your apartment. Maybe you can put a picture in there of you and all your friends decked out in school gear at the game? Or have a photo of the actual school team, or of the scoreboard when they were killing it? This will be a nice memento to keep after you graduate as well.
