"That’s So Raven" Is Back?!

By Victoria Robertson on October 30, 2016

You need to stop everything you’re doing. Right now. Because your childhood is back, and it’s coming in style.

Remember “That’s So Raven,” the Disney Channel show that molded your childhood? The show that showed you the difference between right and wrong over and over again? Well ladies and gentlemen, it’s coming back. No joke. Real talk. For real.

The announcement came directly from Raven-Symoné herself, when she made a big announcement on Thursday’s episode of “The View,” (that talk show that’s been on for a long time but that none of us really watches).

During the airing, she stated she will be leaving the ABC talk show for a new project, which she defined as follows:

“I’m excited and sad, but mostly excited. I have an announcement to make: No, I’m not pregnant,” she said. Instead, she revealed that she has actually been working with Disney Channel (again) in an exciting reboot of her show, “That’s So Raven.”

“There’s no title yet, but I’m calling it ‘That’s So Raven 2.’ It’s Raven Baxter. It’s still me. But I am a mother this time. I’m going to be a single mother raising two kids, and one of them learns that she has visions.”

Auditions will be held soon for all those interested *ahem* everyone *ahem.* No word yet as to whether or not original cast members outside of Raven will be returning (but here’s to hoping there’s at least a couple of cameos, specifically from the Boys in Motion!

This comes after recent reboots such as “Boy Meets World” (Now “Girl Meets World”) are proven success stories and bring back nostalgia that’s perfect as the original watchers are becoming parents themselves.

So really, it’s great that our children might potentially grow up watching the same shows that we did! (In a weird, I don’t want to think about it, kind of way). It’s a little too far in the future for most of us, but for the rest of us, this is the perfect, mindless college TV we need.

Raven-Symonés last day on “The View” will be sometime in December, the date TBD.

According to her, “I’ve had such a great time … I’ve learned so much, and I’ve been saying, my experience has been multidimensional.”

Of course, this is a big deal for The View, especially since her voice has been unique, and she isn’t always in agreement with the rest of the panel, which can be refreshing.

According to her:

“I definitely have a different lifestyle than a lot of people in this world – good and bad – and my views are different than one might think my views might be because I’ve never really spoken my truth until recently. Hopefully I can shed some light on what I like to call the truth.”

She also stated, “Some people might not agree with me and some people will but we know how to talk to each other in a respectful way so that everybody gets their point across and there’s no cutthroat conversation.”

What was so refreshing about Raven’s addition to “The View” was that she brought with her an entirely new, unique perspective that perfectly mimics this country’s current state of acceptance and a lack thereof.

A minority in many ways, and controversial in just as many, Raven managed to voice this perspective without being overbearing or preachy, but rather speaking “her truths,” which just so happen to be the truths of many others in the country.

That’s why the “That’s So Raven” reboot is so exciting as well.

If you’ll remember the original, it was a Disney Channel show with a largely black cast (something not at all common for children’s shows) and spoke about issues that were largely controversial instead of typical, teeny bopper content.

For instance, in one episode, the show discussed weight and how those that aren’t deemed “a size 2” are discriminated against for their size. Another episode discussed smoking and the negative effects it can have, and the series also tackled racism in perhaps one of its strongest episodes.

So to bring this kind of show back to television at a time like this — a children’s show, for that matter — is huge.

It’s an important time to be teaching the younger generations acceptance and some of the difficulties that we face as we grow older, and I couldn’t think of a better person to lead that charge than Raven-Symoné.

It seems as if every show she’s a part of leaves a strong impression on its audience, and that’s exactly what Disney Channel needs right now.

And since we already watch Disney Channel on a semi-regular basis (don’t lie, we all know that you still do it), we’re going to get to see the reboot first hand!

Fingers crossed that it holds up!
