When it comes to decorating a small bathroom, you may feel lost as to where to start or what type of decor you can even fit into the space. Just because you have a small bathroom doesn’t mean you can’t decorate it and make it stylish. While it may be a challenge, we have come up with some of the best ways to decorate a small bathroom without worrying about the hassle of figuring out what will look good or make the bathroom feel even smaller than it is.

Play with a Large Mirror

Mirrors work wonders when it comes to decorating smaller rooms. The reflection it provides will make the room look much bigger than it actually is. So, if you don’t already have one, buy a large mirror and hang it over your sink. If you want to add some pizzazz to your small bathroom, find a mirror with a funky frame or in a fun shape. If you can’t find one that you absolutely love, get creative and make your own frame!

If possible, you can hang up a mirror that has some storage space behind it. This will clear up any counter space on the sink you may be cluttering and keep your bathroom looking clean.

Hang Up Floating Shelves

Let’s face it, a small bathroom definitely does not have a lot of surface space to work with. Add some more surface space by hanging up floating shelves on the wall. This allows you to add little trinkets and decorative items such as plants, figurines, or candles. It also gives you some more storage areas to keep hand towels, extra toothpaste, or any other bathroom necessities.

There are many options for the types of shelves you can put up so you find ones that match exactly the theme you are trying to go for.

Utilize the Toilet

A lot of people want to avoid the toilet when decorating the bathroom. However, when it comes to decorating a small bathroom, it is a great asset to utilize. The back of the toilet offers a great space to add a little tray with decorative items or bathroom necessities. Place a candle, a plant, or an extra roll of toilet paper so your guests don’t have to rummage around under the sink for it.

Put Up Some Wallpaper

Create a bold statement in your small bathroom with some wallpaper. While you may think wallpaper is outdated and only your parents used it when you were younger, it’s making a comeback. It’s simple to put up and you can even buy removable wallpaper, which is great if you are renting an apartment and don’t want to damage the walls.

Keep in mind that you don’t have to put wallpaper up on every single wall in your bathroom. You can create an accent wall to make it really stand out while the rest of the walls are a solid color. This may even make your bathroom feel a little bigger.

Neutral and Light Colors

When it comes to picking out a color scheme for a small bathroom, it’s best to stay with neutral and light colors. These colors will make your bathroom feel bigger and much lighter, especially if you have a window that lets in natural light.

It’s completely understandable if you are against decorating your entire bathroom with neutral colors as it can be a little boring. This gives you the perfect opportunity to add a bold color to create some contrast in the room. You can do this with decorative items, a wall decal, or your shower curtain.
Add a Ledge Above the Sink

As we mentioned before, a small bathroom does not offer much surface space to store items or place decorative items. Another alternative to putting up floating shelves on the wall is adding a ledge above your sink, just under the mirror. This is great if your sink counter doesn’t offer as much space as you would like. Feel free to decorate the ledge itself with some bold colors or a fun pattern to make it really stand out in the bathroom.

Get Started Decorating

Now that you have some ideas and tips on decorating a small bathroom, it’s time to get started! A major change you can make in your bathroom is adding a large mirror. The reflection will make the space seem so much bigger. Give yourself some more surface areas by putting up shelves or a ledge. When it comes to decorating the walls, stick to neutral colors and add an accent wall with wallpaper to make a small bathroom seem bigger and lighter. You can always add a bolder accent color to really pull the room together.

Don’t let a small bathroom keep you from decorating it. There are many ways to go about making it feel like home.
